team of 2 project
This self-sustaining living space is created for the initial habitants, a group of five researchers who explore and research Mars for inhabitation and other human necessities. In a past life, mars contained natural resources that maintained a sustainable ecosystem for life. The design's end goal is to someday retain a habitat adequate for life by planting a seed, that over time, nourishes the current ecosystem. The self-sustaining seed planted into mars will take advantage of the high-speed winds, increased solar radiation due to the thin atmosphere, and the soils faint water content to maintain a controlled climate indoors for the five researchers. As this occurs, the building will also intake certain levels of carbon dioxyde, high solar radiation, and water from the soil, so the forest within can indulge in photosynthesis and produce oxygen that then can be exhausted into the current atmosphere. In time, as the seeds begin to grow in numbers, the ecosystem of mars grows.
Site: Valles Marineris
The temperature is about 32F average at daytime. The valley wind is constant in canyon terrain and has stronger wind to produce energy. Being located near the equator also brings some benefit such as stable temperature and lower seasonal difference.
